Reconcile the records. Stabilize the close. Own the follow-through.
Kind Ledger takes on defined finance work between your accounting records, operating systems, and the people responsible for the next action. Begin with an Assessment, then agree the corrections, recurring close work, or management reporting your business needs.
Start with the problem, not a bundle of unrelated services.
An unexplained balance, an inventory difference, or a repeatedly reopened close needs a supported explanation and an owner. We define both before expanding the work.
- Scoped evidence and reconciliation work
- Approved corrections and repeatable close procedures
- Exception follow-up with named responsibilities
- Coordination with your existing team and advisors
Choose the work the evidence supports.
The Assessment is the starting point. Cleanup and recurring controller support follow where needed and agreed. Inventory, cost of goods sold (COGS), and margin work may run across those engagements. Forecasts and expanded reporting follow only when the underlying information is sufficiently supported.
Cannabis Finance Control Assessment
A scoped examination of cash, inventory, COGS, margin, and close processes to determine what reconciles, what the records support, what remains unresolved, and which finance controls need attention.
The Assessment does not assume a loss. Timing and fees depend on scope, access, and record condition. Corrections and recurring support are separately agreed.
- Evidence map and reconciliation findings
- Exception register: unresolved differences or unsupported items, with risk or impact classification
- Prioritized next steps with responsible owners
Cleanup and Close Stabilization
Resolve selected accounting differences and establish a more repeatable close process. Work may include reconciliations, approved adjustments, supporting schedules, a close calendar, and documented evidence and approval requirements.
This is targeted implementation, not unlimited historical bookkeeping or responsibility for every transaction in the business.
- Traceable corrections and updated schedules
- Defined close tasks, handoffs, and owners
- Repeatable reconciliations and follow-up checks
Ongoing Cannabis Controller Support
Kind Ledger owns the agreed close and reconciliation cadence, coordinates required inputs, reviews specified schedules, and follows open exceptions. Management receives a clear view of close status, material limitations, and the next decisions required.
The engagement defines which work Kind Ledger owns and which decisions, approvals, and source responsibilities remain with the client and its advisors.
- Agreed close calendar and reconciliation responsibilities
- Exception follow-up and unresolved-item escalation
- Management reporting coordination and next-period checks
Inventory, COGS and Margin Control
Connect production and product records to accounting inventory, documented costs, cost of goods sold, and gross margin. Trace unexplained differences, document assumptions, and maintain a usable reconciliation between the operating records and the ledger.
Physical quantities, accounting value, and tax treatment are different questions. Tax-sensitive positions remain with the designated tax practitioner.
- Quantity-to-value and schedule-to-ledger reconciliation
- Costing support and documented variance explanations
- Exceptions and ownership for recurring inventory checks
Strategic Finance and Cash Planning
Build cash forecasts, scenarios, budget-versus-actual analysis, and management reporting around information that is sufficiently supported. Make assumptions, reporting cutoffs, and material exceptions visible rather than hiding them behind a dashboard.
Reporting or dashboard build-out is a controlled finance add-on. It is not unlimited business intelligence customization, software development, real-time reporting, or a forecast guarantee.
- Scoped cash forecasts and planning scenarios
- Defined KPIs and decision-focused reporting
- Assumption tracking and management discussion
The next action needs evidence, approval, and an owner.
Every material finding separates what was examined, what was observed, what can be supported, what remains unresolved, and what happens next.
Define the question and the evidence.
Agree the entities, periods, systems, accounts, and decisions in scope. Confirm the source owners and approved secure access before examining records.
Agree the correction or escalation.
Distinguish explained timing from errors, missing evidence, and control gaps. Document the proposed action, required approval, responsible person, and how completion will be checked.
Check that the process works again.
For recurring engagements, maintain the close calendar and exception follow-up. Carry unresolved items forward visibly and check whether the agreed control operated in the next period.
Management reporting and dashboard work follows approved KPI definitions and reconciled source information. Reports identify the reporting cutoff, close status, last refresh, and material exceptions. Where systems do not agree, the unresolved difference is documented rather than presented as a final number.
A defined controller role, without taking over every relationship.
Your bookkeeper, operations team, tax practitioner, attorney, and other providers may each own part of the process. We make the agreed reconciliation and close responsibilities explicit so that important differences do not fall between them.
What Kind Ledger may own within scope.
Kind Ledger’s responsibilities are defined in the engagement. Depending on scope, that work may include:
- Cross-system reconciliations and supporting schedules
- Variance investigation and approved cleanup
- Close procedures, finance-control work, and exception follow-up
- Management reporting and reconciled records or questions for your tax or assurance provider
What stays with your team and qualified providers.
Client management retains business decisions, spending authority, source provision, and approvals. Kind Ledger does not directly provide the services below; they remain with your team and designated qualified providers.
- Routine bookkeeping, accounts payable and accounts receivable processing, and payroll
- Income-tax preparation or advice, and tax filings, including sales-tax filing
- Legal or licensing compliance
- Audits or other attest services
For professional referrals, Kind Ledger can own a defined management-accounting workstream without displacing the advisor’s tax or core client relationship. Referral, collaborative, and selective subcontract arrangements require agreed scope, client permissions, confidentiality, and responsibility boundaries.
Which reconciliation or close task needs a clear owner?
Share the general question, the systems involved, and what remains unresolved. We will confirm whether an Assessment or a defined professional-referral workstream is appropriate.
Share only general, non-sensitive context. Do not send records or login details through public forms or ordinary email. Secure records intake is confirmed separately after scope and engagement terms are agreed.
